What!? Easter…

Hello strangers. Remember me? It seems I have forgotten all about blogging. Over the last few days, no weeks, months life has been crazy busy. And all because I like to make sure everything is perfect.  I say “yes” I can help – way to much. I am a volunteer.  I guess it’s my “new normal.”  But I need to slow down and not make my family so crazy.  This morning I made a big note to myself. “Find just Molly time!” Those four little words say a lot don’t they.

findtime

I have been thinking about this little note all day. And it occurred to me, that when I took a few hours to sit at the computer and blog it is really Molly time. It might not be what I “should” be doing. And some might think it’s a waist of time. I might not be all that good at it. And you might think my life is boring. To me, it’s a moment of quite. A moment of not doing for everyone else. Imagine that! Amazing. I have said it before and I will again… I am going to do this more often. Blogging is almost therapeutic.  It’s been 4 plus months (almost 5) since my last post. MY GAD! That really sucks! And I have a lot to share –

table

Shall we get on to the goods… I think so. How about Easter? Hubby and I hosted a lovely Easter brunch this year. Of course this meant making sure everything was perfect (because that’s what I do). And of course, that doesn’t mean just the meal and the table setting. In my world that meant painting our bedroom the weekend before Easter and making an odd coat closet in the living room into a bar (I will share both next time). You know what ever sane person does before family comes over – on top of all “normal” life things.

As you know, Pinterest is an addiction. And when it comes to holiday’s – forget about it, you can find anything. I found a how to by Urban Comfort on making these beautiful little flower baskets for the table… out of coffee filters! WHAT? YES! Making them was super easy to. The overall effect was a little Martha, but I secretly like that.

foods

For brunch we served crepes of all kinds! Well okay- two kinds. A sweet crepe bar with cream cheese mousse, a Nutella mousse and fresh fruit and a savory crepe torte.  The second best thing about this meal (the first being it was delicious!) was that ninety percent of it could be made the day before.  We got together with the family and my sister in law made crepes for hours (seriously at least 3) and I made the mousse’s, cut the fruit, prepped the sauces and other items for the torte. It was fun to stand around chatting and cooking. The kiddos dyed the easter eggs for the easter bunny to take and hide the next morning. Hubby and my mama chatted with us and there might have been a cocktail or two involved.

(Can we just say how stinking cute Sneaky B is in this outfit? I mean really…)

The day was wonderful. The food delicious. The company fantastic. The stories hysterical. The best part – was all of it. Really, I just love to entertain. I love the process… even though I might just make my family bonkers for a few days. Hopefully next time I won’t be painting a room the weekend before, I am pretty sure we are good now on that end, well there is the play room…   newsignature.jpg

Sprinklings: I’m slightly obsessed

So are you a “pinner”? I sure am. For those of you not in the know… I am talking about Pinterest. I have been thinking of writing about pinterest for awhile now, wasn’t really sure I was going to write because what can I say other than it is a time suck that I do enjoy. And I have been wanting to challenge you all to a Pinterest Challenge (more on that in a bit).

Today I realized I have 91 boards and 3,419 pins. I think Electronic hoarder is a better title for me. The good here is that I do reference my “vegan for life” board for recipes all the time. And the “to do one day” board- well I actually have done about 20% of them. “Boo” has given me a lot of ideas for this Halloween and I am looking forward to this Christmas to try some of the new ideas I have pinned there. (Sorry for the mention of Christmas- won’t happen again till after Thanksgiving…my personal rule).

The not so good…there are so many other things I want to try. I’m sure I am not alone here right? For me, lately, the only way to get anything done is to challenge myself and tell everyone I’m going to do it…nothing like a little peer pressure. So I challenge you to…if your game.
VP3
The challenge is pick 3 pins from 3 separate boards and complete them by December 20, 2013. Are you game?
Here is what I chose, this wasn’t easy by the way- but I am happy with my choices:

3CollageTo find links to these awesome projects, you can go to my VP 3 Challenge Board.

So if you are game, let me know. Send me pic’s of your projects and I will post your completed projects. Maybe you would like to write a guest post, I am game for that too. signature

Sprinklings: breakfast

Breakfast used to be my favorite meal of the day…and then I started eating a vegan diet. Plus I am gluten free. So finding something super yummy isn’t always easy and quite frankly I am done with hot oatmeal with berries. So when I found this recipe on Pinterest by The Joy of Everyday Cooking I was super excited! Peanut butter oatmeal bars- YUM!

I have been making them twice a week for weeks now, but yesterday I had a slight panic…not enough honey!

Okay side note- many vegans do not eat honey, harms the bees or something like that. This is not us- we still eat honey, we are vegans for health reasons and I believe the bees enjoy making honey.

Back to the bars…I had to adjust the recipe to what I had in the pantry and they came out divine. So here you go!

ENOUGH already!

I’m guessing your thinking I’m talking about Sneaky B.  Nope.  I am talking about Kiddo’s amount of stuff today. Way too much stuff. Okay let’s be real, way too much little shit. Everywhere. Little toys, barbie shoes, bracelets, games pieces from who knows what game, dress-up clothes, missing socks, half painted somethings… TOO MUCH and I’ve had it.

kroombeforepicThis is what her rooms looks like every morning when we get up.  She plays in her room every night taking everything out…everything! I know this is a sleeping stall tactic, one that we have not been able to control.  So every morning we, okay I, struggle with her to pick it up and then it looks like this again in no time at all.  I admit, I have given up with Sneaky B around, well almost given up.  We just pick up one thing, maybe dress-up and then I’m over the power struggle.

So when my mom shared this pin with me I thought just another way to organize, no one would really get rid of all there kids toys.  But oh how wrong I was! And after reading the blog post (and almost everything else on this new favorite blog, Living Well, Spending Less) I had a HALLELUJAH moment.  It MUST be done! MUST! And after a quick chat with Hubby, the planning began.

kroom2Kiddo’s room when it’s actually clean.  Note this is a few months ago, after we cleaned out, so I thought, before Sneaky B arrived. Geez was I wrong!

We told Kiddo that we were going to do a “toy experiment;” that almost all her toys where going to go into storage for awhile and we would see if she had more fun. “Okay” she said. Seriously I almost fell on the floor, I was expecting the little lawyer arguing for every single little piece of junk; all she was concerned about was blanky. “We will never give away blanky” she asked with a worried look.  “No way!” I told her.  She gave me a big smile and said “I want the dress-up, little people castle, house & barn, my leap frog, and a few stuffed animals.” DONE!

kroom (1)picIt took a few days with the help of my mom, was somewhat exhausting, but it’s done. It’s been a few days now, and guess what, Kiddo has been playing in her room for hours. And when she is done with dress up, she hangs it up and starts with something else.  This pic was taken this morning, even after her night time playing/sleep stalling tactic moves… can you believe it, she put everything away by herself without being asked!

kroom3 (1)It’s amazing how having less, so far, has changed our kiddo’s world.  And while I am typing this sitting across from our wall of book cases that is overflowing with books, I can’t help but think it’s time for Hubby and I to have less too.signature

a date!

Not a romantic date with Hubby, unfortunately, but a reminder of one of the happiest days in our lives.  I can’t take any credit for this idea because of course I saw it on pinterest, shocking I know. But I loved it and now, or very soon, it will be hanging somewhere in our home.

With all of the cleaning out and moving furniture around it was nice to be creative for an afternoon.  It also helped that is was freaking hot here today! (Your out of control Mother Nature!)  On any normal day, we would not be venturing out in this heat and being preggers, NO WAY… not even to the car thank you!

hot

ugllypaintingSo here is what I did, so simple and effective.  A few weeks ago I bought this “lovely” painting while out thrifting to use as a canvas for $2 – SCORE!

With a little white and gray paint, printed out numbers and some patience….

"Lovely" painting is now white and of course Kiddo was painting too

“Lovely” painting is now white and of course Kiddo was painting too, the only way to get anything creative done with a 4 year old, is to have something creative for her to do to, at least in this house.

Layout of numbers

Layout the numbers how you would like them, trace around cut out prints, calmly paint and….

dateI have a new painting to hang and a reminder of our wedding date!  I do know where it’s going, but I can’t show you until I have the room completed, right now it’s a disaster of half moved office space, piles of donations and an overwhelming amount of stuff to figure out what to do with (toss it Molly!).  But I will show you soon, geez we only have 6 weeks till Sneaky Baby is due to arrive, not much time left to get everything done!

Speaking of showing you the “after” photos, in the last post I mentioned the Kiddo’s big girl room was completed and I would be sharing….well, I found a new vanity for her, the one we made here, just wasn’t cutting it anymore and this new one is so cute.  Once it’s finished being painted I will show your the awesome find and the big girl room!

Showered with love

Last week I was feeling the love and this week I was showered with love with another baby shower for this Sneaky baby of ours. What I lucky girl I am!

shower2.1

This weekend was a baby shower with friends.  Let me tell you I have the best ones around. It was a beautiful day…perfect.  Really I could go on and on, but one of my friends who threw the shower for me blogged about it already, so instead of reinventing the wheel, you can read all about it here 🙂

Okay…wasn’t that a truly “Martha” event… Love those ladies.

cousinlove
A rare moment of quite…. I think it lasted 15 minutes

We also had my Mama, Niece and Nephew stay over for the weekend. Wow! Three kids in our tiny place that is in the middle of rearranging and removing of crap, who are all so excited to see each other…. well let’s just say if I wasn’t preggers  I would have been participating in the cocktails with Hubby and Mama for sure!  It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!  But truly I do love them, love seeing them and wish they lived closer!

The Kiddo’s room was updated last week too. One thing we did was a little art project Kiddo saw on Pinterest, )Yes my 4 year old Kiddo loves to look at Pinterest with me for projects to do… love her!) What she actually said was “I really, really, really want that in my Big Sister room.” Okay will do and we did.  And it was easy….here are the steps:

First find simple images on the web of the princesses of choice, or anything for those without princess loving kiddos, and print them out.  I enlarged the image, and printed each quarter of the image and typed it together.

mermaid

Then cut out the image and tape on top of the final paper for your silhouette, tape a lot to hold the image in place.  I used dark pink wrapping paper…shocking!  If you are not super stealthy with cutting you might want to use a thicker paper, it might be a bit more forgiving.

Once the silhouette is cut out, double stick tape to your background paper, I used simple white poster board, frame and hang.

Super cute little girl, I mean Big Sister, art for pennies.

More of the Kiddo’s Big Sister room to come later this week, I know you are sitting at the edge of your seat to see it (giggle)…signature

day 29: a series of 9 – 1

9-1I can’t say that the series of 9 canvases are completed. I have one left. One.  And it’s making me bonkers.

It didn’t help that I woke up this morning with a nasty cold.  Really what the heck? I was totally fine yesterday, this morning I felt like I was hit by a ton of bricks. And kiddo, she didn’t even want to go to the park with her BFF for a few hours… shocking. So we had a not-so-lazy, lazy day.  Not-so-lazy lazy day? Yes. We stayed in our ‘jamas all day but I did make a to do list, and almost completed everything.  The day is still young, it’s only 4pm, so I will probably get a few more of these things done. As you can see, Canvases is on this list… arg!

Notice at the bottom of list I put, "Write to do list" that when, there is always something to check off right away :-)
Notice at the bottom of list I put, “Make to do list” that way there is always something to check off right away 🙂

I finished the “Myles” canvas pretty quickly.  I only had a few details left to finish up. I think it turned out pretty good for a novice painter.  Then I just stared at the blank ninth canvas.  After finishing a few other to do items, I painted it orange, thinking that corner needed a bit of orange. Now what? I don’t know. I thought of a carrot or an orange, but I think that’s the color talking to me.  Making me bonkers!

9close

Canvases Left to Right starting at top:

  • Hubby’s Quote: he has always wanted this saying hanging in the house, he finally got it
  • 3: The power of the number 3, we are a 3 person family, I have a connection to the number 3.
  • ARG!: help!
  • Myles: our kitty
  • Our wedding logo: we had a beach-y, picnic-y, laid back kind of party wedding
  • Chevron glitter stripes
  • Kiddo’s painting: stripes because “she wanted to”
  • Kiddo’s heart hands
  • My quote: it speaks to me, I like it.

This last canvas is making me crazy.  I looked back to my sketch book where i sketched and jotted down ideas for this project. Funny- I wrote down 9 canvases, but had 8 drawn and 8 ideas circled. Guess I couldn’t count that day.  The ideas I scratched then, still don’t work.

This is making me crazy, and of course now I am fixating on it. I don’t like being stuck like this.  Any ideas? Really I would love any ideas.signature

Vintage Revivals: Color Blocked Family Silhouette Art with Scotch Duct Tape

When I saw this on Pinterest, it was an absolute must for me to do.  Kiddo always gives hearts with her hands when leaving friends and family, it’s so precious, I just love her.  Then I decided to do a series of canvases, this was on the top of my list.

The tutorial Vintage Revivals created is awesome! The only thing was for me when I started this today I didn’t have colored duct tape and I wanted to do it now….so I painted it.  I used the tutorial and made a template of kiddos hands, then I just traced and painted it onto the canvas.

IMG_5844Here is my finished canvas, I think it turned out okay.  Can’t wait to get the other six canvases completed… maybe I will start another one now, no ones needs dinner right?

day 18: A series of 9

I have been wanting to create a series of canvases to hang above the sofa for awhile now, and it’s about time I get to it, improving our little world with a bit of new “art.”   With all of the fun ideas I have pinned, it’s about time to try them out, so here is my version of the re-pinned many times Chevron glittered canvas. And since the image I pinned (along with many of you) didn’t have a link to how to do it, I am going to share with you how I did it.  It takes a bit on math, but if you can use a ruler, you got this.

Supplies you will need:

  • Canvas (I am using an 8 x 10, so all dimensions will be for this size)
  • Paint, background & stripe color
  • GLITTER! (I matched my stripe color and glitter)
  • Decoupage glue, or other thin glue
  • Blue painters tape
  • Ruler & pencil (if your background is a dark color, use a white pencil)
  • Paint brushes

Alright so here we go

background

Paint your canvas the background color

layoutFor the 8 x 10 canvas, divide the canvas vertically in half, then 2″ on each side, make sure to keep your lines straight and perpendicular. For the horizontal lines, start at the bottom and measure 2″ up draw your line and repeat all the way up. Next draw a diagonal line, starting at the upper left square, from top to bottom, repeat in the next square bottom to top, repeat pattern for entire canvas.

tapetrick

Start to tape off your diagonal lines.  Here is a super trick that will make your points super sharp.  Cut your tape at an angle away from the line that connects to the line you are taping.  What? That was confusing, see the picture above, pictures speak volumes right (that might not even be the saying).

tapedoneWhen you are done taping, it’s time for trick number two…

paintoverPaint over your tape lines with your back ground color.  Doing this will help you have super sharp and clean lines, because any paint that leaks under the tape will be the back ground color. This works for walls too, it’s a must.

firstlayerWhen the background paint is dry, paint on your stripe color.  Wait again for it to dry then it’s time for ….

glitter

Glitter! Paint overtop of the stripe color a thin-ish layer of decoupage glue and sprinkle on the glitter. Make sure to be working over paper or on a tray to shake off the glitter to use on the next stripe and to attempt to contain the glitter from getting everywhere. I work on one stripe at a time. When this is dry it’s time to remove the tape.

perfectlineIf you did everything perfectly, which is tricky, you will have perfect lines like this. 🙂

pinatoverLast step, I know it seems like forever… Paint over the remaining layout lines that you taped over at the beginning and your done!
